Mommy Maria welcomes you

by MARIA on June 15, 2009

Hello.

I officially introduce myself to you and your loved ones.  Hello again.

I’m Maria.

I am a wife. Going on 9 years, I’m married to someone who annoys me, (and I say this with all the love I can muster), on a daily basis. But no matter how hard I try, he will not go away. In the long run, this is actually a good thing – he is the honorary bug killer.

I am a stay-at-home mommy. I have two lovely little people that I absolutely adore. As I should – they came from my fruitful womb after all.  They make me want to rip my hair out sometimes (probably as often as I should be working out), but they make up for it with all their hilarious quirks.

  • Mr. 5 year old is a funny, happy, smart little monkey with a love for Lego, Star Wars and video games.
  • Ms. 2 year old is a sweet, adorable, stubborn little lady with a love of spoons, dressup and Dora.

I have somehow convinced them that I am the “best mommy ever!” The fact that they don’t know that many people, is definitely working in my favor!

I also used to be a woman. Technically and anatomically, I still am a woman, but as many mommies know, kids and all their business tends to take number one priority, as it has with me. This is also affectionately known as “letting yourself go”. Yup, I’ve let myself go, and it’s not pretty.  It used to be pretty, but now its just pretty fat and pretty invisible.

It’s a tough, and ironic position to be in, being a mom. Even though there are millions of us out there, motherhood can be a very lonely thing, especially for those who stay-at-home. Its true what they say – it takes a village. Without that village, mommy might just go a little crazy. And so in an effort to regain some of my former glory, I thought I would create my own village with this wee blog. It shall be a mishmash and a chitty chat of delightful goodness. If you read my blog and occasionally pee your pants, because you can’t pull yourself away long enough to use the toilet, then I have succeeded.

Love it! Being a mom is the BEST thing that can ever happen to a woman. But it can be the most isolating, discouraging, and feeling like a failure inducing things that can happen to a woman. Sometimes it’s nice to just say it how it is. I am not given this kind of honesty in my day to day life. The women in my life constantly gush about how perfect and lovely their life is and how perfect and lovely their children are. While being a wife and mother has moments of perfection and loveliness (and these are the moments we live for and that keep us sane!) it is not always how things go. It is nice to see some honesty!

Hey, now I can post a comment! :)

This is a nice post, and I love your description about letting yourself go – sometimes I feel the same way, especially about being invisible…

And I’ll gladly read your blog, but I’d prefer not to pee in my pants. Thanks though! :)

oh my gosh- your post is sooo funny. right on!!! i love your humor about a very wonderful but very wonderfully isolating and maddening existence as a stay at home mom. :D thank you so much for the laughs. “Yup, I’ve let myself go, and it’s not pretty. It used to be pretty, but now its just pretty fat and pretty invisible.” i can relate my friend, i can relate! this marriage with children thang is all so very much a love hate relationship- a mixed curse, uh blessing, indeed! ;D can’t wait for more updates- you are in my rss feed now and just followed you on twitter. thank you for the good cheer and smiles :D you rock!

Thanks for popping by my blog! I think it’s possible to be both a woman and a mommy – but it’s hard. Once a mommy, ppl just see you as a mommy. :) Can’t wait to read more of your blog!
