This Shopaholic Needs Her Fix

by MARIA on October 1, 2009

So yesterday, I was tweeting about how shopping online, when you’re in Canada, kind of sucks the big one. With the shipping, and duty and taxes and exchange rate, it kind of ruins the joy of the actual shopping. It has to be something REALLY great and fab and unique, in order for me to ignore all that and buy it anyway. Truth be told, I don’t really know that many great online shopping sites that will ship to Canada, and that are NOT kid-related. I’m kind of all over the shopping for my kids all the time, because they have EVERYTHING they could possibly need, and then some, and then some more.

SO, I’ve been in a shopping mood lately, and living in a smallish city with few options, that I personally like, is kind of bummer. Here’s where my fellow shopaholics, fashionistas, online experts, yada yada, come in. I want to know where you LOVE to shop online for yourself, whether it be for clothes or shoes or handbags or makeup or whatever. If they are Canadian sites, great, but I’m open to U.S. sites too, as long as they have great stuff! Please let me know online sites that you love, that you visit often, that I must discover, in the comment section below, so that I can fulfill this need to spend. If you love Etsy, and I know many of you do, I would love for you to be specific in which Etsy shops to visit, since there are SO many to discover. I thank you in advance (my husband does not). In fact, lets keep this to ourselves — if my husband finds out, his head may implode.

I don’t like to shop. I know I’m in the minority here. But really, I don’t like it. Clothes, food, whatever. Ugh!

I am excited to read all the comments because maybe something will catch my eye. Or change my mind.

Maria, you can always ship to me and I mail to you. Or is that way too complicated?

xoxo

Embarrassed to admit this, but I love ThinkGeek (http://www.thinkgeek.com).

Hanna Andersson for clothes for V is another guilty pleasure. http://www.hannaandersson.com/home.asp

I’m sure I’ll think of more once I’ve had my coffee. lol

I’d also go with Etsy. It’s not just for kids. I’ve found many a lovely thing for myself (from jewelry to clothes to funny things) on the site. It’s also where I do my Christmas shopping for friends. I know that there are many Etsy sellers FROM Canada because I keep finding them and, as such, shipping takes eons. ;)

+1 to the Etsy reccomendation. Not all sellers ship to Canada, but many do. And many don’t say they do but if you message them and ask they will. I could spend millions on Etsy if given the chance.

I love Boden. I have never actually bought from them, but the clothes are so cute and reasonably priced.

ohhh ahhh, I love this post.

I am totally infatuated with Etsy but find the amount of shops overwhelming. I recently purchased some fun placemats for my mother-in-law’s birthday.

Keep up the retailer links! I’m curious.

Well, it’s a site in the UK, but… For presents for others, and treats for yourself (there’s stuff for kids too) try http://www.handpickedcollection.com. They definitely ship to Canada – I send something to the US, so can’t imagine it would be a different shipping policy – though you’ll have to pay a few ££ for it! Hope you like it; nice jewellery, quirky kitchen stuff, lovely bath smellies.

I shop for shoes at Aldo Canada Online. Free shipping if you spend over $100 (I think only $5.00 for under that). Also, you get to browse through all the sales and find shoes that you can’t always find at the local stores.

Plus I used amazon.ca, ebay, and etsy regularly.

I can totally relate to your predicament!

We shop like crazy when we visit the USA for 3 wks every summer and only occasionally shop online.

We are die hard fans of this place:

And I love to get soap and stuff for me here:

This is a great art store, and they ship:

Hi, My name is Sherry and I am a shopaholic..

I found you through twitter ( probably a gymbo search)
There is another site similar to ebay where you can chat with the sellers in real time. Make best offers and really bargain.
This is my booth, but it will also bring you to this site. Most people will ship internationally. I know I do.

Folow me on twitter and find some great bargains.

I ran across a link to this store yesterday. I’d never heard of it before, but their clothes are super cute. It’s based in Utah, and I don’t know what the shipping charges are like to Canada (they ship UPS or USPS). It might be worth checking out though!

Or here:

Or a handbag here:

Jewelry:

That is just getting started. Happy shopping!

My store isn’t totally unique other than I run it 99% by myself. I have good, quality stuff. And, you know I’m awesome, so there’s that.

I hate how many stores don’t ship to Canada. Therefore, I hardly do any shopping at all online. Rather, I’ll see what I want, and then call the store and pay over the phone with my credit card and have friends in TO or my family in D.C. give it to me when they see me. Otherwise, I stock up like a crazy woman whenever I’m in TO or in the USA. Of course, Ottawa has way better shopping than K.dot so you’re just going to have to move here, or at least come for a shopping day with me before Christmas! How fun! Sorry, my comment to you totally sucks the big one since I offer you NO advice at all!

I love etsy, I browse/surf too much there I do not have a particular store that I return too.

I shop online for my makeup & skincare from Arbonne International. They have expanded to Canada and the UK & Australia.

http://www.healthyskincareforall.myarbonne.com is my website to browse or purchse Arbonne products.

It’s also a great way to make extra income and it gets me out of the house a couple nights a week to hang out with and meet new friends.

I love online shopping and too am in Canada. I shop for healthy stuff, plus am into health and wellness as a home business. There is also a brand new shopping portal just going public where you can get the lowest prices. It may be of interest to you. If you would like links to my sites and more info on the portal, let me know.

Take care, Jill

Etsy is great for anything and everything.

I also do a lot of shopping at http://www.anthropologie.com (the home division), http://www.urbanoutfitters.com (the home division, too – although, they have some amazing boots). And you gotta check out http://www.zappos.com. I’m not sure if Zappos ships to Canada, but I bet if you asked really nice they would. They’re just that cool.
