A Night of Yummy Mummys

by MARIA on November 13, 2009

I have been reading The Yummy Mummy newsletter for a long time, and I really love it. I love that its by women for women, but I especially adore it because its Canadian. A Canadian newsletter for mummys, founded by one of the coolest mums in Canada, Erica Ehm? Seriously, what’s not to like. I was beyond excited when I found out that there was an opportunity to attend a Yummy Mummy event in Toronto, and was thrilled to be one of the 18 moms chosen to attend.

It has been a VERY long time since I’ve been able to hang with some cool women, sans babies. Let me tell you, driving 2.5 hours to attend this event was beyond worth it. I had the best time. I met some fabulous women who I have come to enjoy and interact with on Twitter. And, the topper is I met the Queen of all mummys – the lovely Erica Ehm. The proof that she’s beyond special in my book? She hugged me – three times. Girl has GOOD TASTE. I also met the fabulous Jack @JackHourigan who is beyond cool and very funny. My claim to fame will now be that I was the one that taught her what an avatar is. Jealous?

Cherie-Lynn (@CLBuchananPhoto) suggested I blog about this event because every time she looked at me that night, I was laughing. Its true – I had the best time. I don’t get out much on my own (EVER) so this was beyond fab in my book. Where else can I be stalked by the lovely Cherie-Lynn, who kept taking my picture every time I looked at her. Evidently there is a collage to follow – please note that that night, I was retaining approx. 50 pounds of water (Seriously).

I also got to hang with my sister from another mother Maria (@amotherworld) and the teeny tiny fabulous Sarah (@sarahcasm) who were my dinner dates for the evening. Although I would like to officially say that Maria ate all the dessert, and how tacky not to share Maria.

The dinner was so delicious, and the wine was smooth – thankfully I didn’t have to drive, so I could enjoy plenty. IL Mulino was beautiful and the food was amazing – I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I actually knew the owner – small small world. It was the perfect place for a romantic dinner – although there were no men in sight that evening. Unless you count Terry, the lovely Maitre’d (although Maria and I thought he looked more like a Bobby).

My only regret was that I didn’t get more time to spend with all the ladies. I did get to speak to and meet everyone and can’t wait to see everyone again. I loved meeting everyone including @Journeywoman, @Kathryn_Easter, @RachelMC, @kathybuckworth, @weewelcome, @YMCbuzz, @ParentClub, @CandaceDx, @cbadov, @fdnstudio, @averygoodyear, @SarahSB.

Thanks everyone for a great evening!!

I am so jealous. That looks like it was the best evening. Ever. Better, even, than meeting my sister for sister-date-night. (Which we have managed to do only ONCE. Lame.) Thanks for sharing. I’m inspired now. Seriously.

Seriously. We are lame. We totally need to etch Sister-Date night into a concrete calendar. I’m totally like you, Maria, laughing my way right through an evening out away from the brood. In fact, I am laughing right now just thinking about getting another night out with my sis. We’re pretty funny when we’re together, and MAN do we need the laughs.

Even though I wasn’t there I can practically FEEL the relief and excitement you must have felt being sans babies finally! Why don’t you buy a ticket to Austin and you can bathe in some sans babies time with your American friend, Jess??
