Happy Friday Everyone!
I knew it was going to be a great day today when I found out that I’m the featured SWEET MAMA on SweetMama – I won’t lie, I’m beyond thrilled. Thank you so much Nadine!! Click the link to see the article (the pic of me and my little people was taken in Washington D.C. this past August)
I also found out last night that I was listed as one of the 101 Women Bloggers to Watch in 2010 on WE Magazine!! WOOHOO!! Now I’m really blushing! Cake anyone?
You may also have read in an earlier post that I’ve been chosen as one of the TORONTO Ambassadors for Little House on the Prairie: The Musical. Its going to be fabulous and if you’re planning to be in Toronto see a show between January 27-Feb28, 2010, you should check it out! Melissa Gilbert (who was the original LAURA in the tv series) will be playing the role of MA!!! If you are planning to go, I can provide you a discount code for tickets!
Finally, I’ve been thinking about my blog name and I’m conflicted – do I love it, do I hate it? Am I bored and have nothing better to do than be nitpicky? Do I give people the wrong impression of me, and do they think I mean I’m bored as a mommy or I’m bored and I happen to be a mommy (the second one is true by the way). What do you think? Should I change my blog name? I can’t really change my Twitter name, since everyone knows me as BoredMommy and I think it would be weird/confusing to change it all of a sudden. It makes sense to have the Twitter name and blog name to be similar, but I know tons of people that don’t and I don’t think it necessarily has to be so. Please take my poll and help me decide, because I’ve begun thinking about making the switch to WordPress.org and I kind of want to do everything all at the same time. THANKS!
[polldaddy poll=2488441]
Thanks for everyone’s feedback!!! The Majority think I should stick with my BORED Mommy name, and I’m thinking it totally makes sense right now. For those who think I should change it, please don’t hate! I respect your opinions and appreciate you!

I voted no because I liek Bored mommy. I always took it as you aare a mommy who is bored (not as being bored of being a mommy). I do think that your domain name should changd though, because mommymaria.wordpress.com is confusing. boredmommy.wordpress is better.
Congrats on your blogging achievements
I fully intend to change my twitter name when I get pregnant (probably to GonnabeMomErin) and again once the baby(ies) come along… I don’t think it would be totally confusing. I plan to get Hootsuite to send annoucements maybe twice a day for a week surrounding the change – “Coming Soon, I’ll be changing my name too…” for 3-4 days before and “In case you missed the announcement, I used to be WannabeMomErin” for a few days afterwards. I figure that a week is long enough to give everyone important the heads up, and others will figure it out.
And, my blog title is currently “(Erin and Jason) WannabeParents” which again will need to change as our circumstances do.
Not to mention that I just realized that my URL registration runs out in less than a month, and I don’t know if I want to renew it. I might not even be parked at erinhiscocks.com anymore.
Branding is the hardest thing about a business (blog in your case) and you have branded yourself well to date. If you think you can rally all of your followers to switch and you really aren’t satisfied your blog name is correctly suited to you, then go ahead…I think you should stay the same and maybe add a “bubble” or something with an additional tag line…
Thanks – that’s great feedback, and I feel the same way actually.
I think the name fits with your sense of humour 100%. At first people may not get it…but once they read your blog it becomes crystal clear. You have that dry/sarcastic/self deprecating humour thing going on …..the title just fits.
my 2 cents. Do you have ideas for what you think you would change it to?
Oh and congrats on all the listings and recognition. That’s totally awesome!
Feels like you’ve been around forever now, but its only been 9 months? Wow!
I wouldn’t change your name, yes it might be confusing and ppl may misunderstand the title at first. IF they read your postings they will know you and know how you feel about being a mom and your life around it. However, you’ve built a following both to your blog and to your twitter. It would be more confusing having two different names – there would be a lack of ‘branding’
Very cool with all these awards! Keep it up girly!!
Hmmm…I wouldn’t change it. We all know you so well by this name, and it doesn’t limit you as to what we’d expect you to write. I love the name! Though, I’m sure whatever you pick, if you do change it, would be great.
I don’t think you should change it, you have started to get your name out there with your original name. Your a mom and some stuff bores you, I like it. You can use a tag line if you want to clarify your name.but I like.
Hi Maria,
I think you should change your blog name to something more upbeat and positive, because you have a funny sense of humor.
Congrats !
Lisa aka pbajmom on twitter
I think your name is fine. I love that I am a mom but am bored in the other areas of my life at times. In the end changing your blog name is up to you and what you want. I don’t think your blog and Twitter name have to be the same.
No matter what your name is I will definitely be following! Have a great weekend! CONGRATS!
Nope. I love your name. I voted no! Keep it! Plus congrats on all the recognition, this interview will be the icing on the cake.
I struggle with many of the same questions, but here are some of my thoughts:
-If you have a loyal following, they’ll follow your to a new name etc. Will your ‘brand’ be easier to grow under a new name? That may guide you for the future.
-I like that your name is kinda tongue in cheek – you are obviously very busy! But the first time I saw it I did think you meant bored with mommyhood (now I know that’s not the case, you are an awesome mom and blogger!)
Also, huge congrats on the acknowledgements!! Keep being awesome.
No! Do not change your blog name. That’s what you’re known for. I like it. I started blogging in 2007 and wasn’t sure where I was going with my blog, or how much I’d love it, or how long I’d be blogging for… and I picked the name Loulou’s Views and although I like it… I still have thought about changing it but think now, it’s too late for that!
Your blog name is cool, there’s no need to change it. Too much achievement for the first month of new year, a blessing to be thankful of. Friday is one of my favorite day of the week, Friday night is a party time, and time for mac cosmetics brushes makeup.
Yay, Maria!!!! Congratulations! That is so exciting.
I sure wish I could see that musical — I LOVED Little House as a kid.
So here’s my two cents on the possible blog change. I think the current title is a little misleading. That said, it is your brand at this point, and just look at all the people who know you as Bored Mommy! I actually think buyersbeaware makes a really good point. If you change the name, DEFINITELY try to keep the Bored Mommy concept in a tagline.
Congrats and congrats! You make us proud, plus we know who to try to emulate now.
Maria-congratulations on all the recognition you’ve received! You have definitely earned it.
