I’ve always loved poetry. I’m no expert, but I like what I like. Keats, Browning, Whitman and my favorite, Yeats. I remember the first time I read his work and it was love at first sight.
The poem below is a gem and one of my favorites.
Love Poem
Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That’s all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.

I remember whispering this into a guy’s ear many moons ago, trying to impress him.
He looked at me like I was totally nuts.
Clearly, not a man of poetry.

Ah that is such a great poem… (and that guy sounds like a jerk!)
I love that you did that!
If he didn’t get it, he wasn’t worth it! It’s a lovely poem.
(Dropped in from SITS (I’m always late) and I figured that post had enough comments!)
I love the poem – I took a poetry class once and couldn’t believe all the hidden stuff you can find within those words.
Maria – I gave you a blog award on my little blog today. I love how you make all us other moms not feel so alone.

Thank you so much for saying that!!! I really appreciate it – it means alot. And thank you for the blog award!
I have to admit I have never really “got” poetry, probably because there are so many things being inferred that I miss the point. I “get” your poem and love it! Thanks for sharing.
I have never been much of a poetry fan, but once in a blue moon, I read one that I love.
I agree, it would take an idiot to not at least appreciate the poetic effort!
What a great poem! I think it was his loss to not appreciate your words
Is this what Edward whispered in your ear, in your dream? Sigh…
Hahaha!
I’m so not a good writer of poetry. Let’s admit it, I’m barely good at writing a blog..right? WRONG.
I loved the poem and just laughed out loud when I read that you whispered it in his ear. It’s like I could so see that happening.
Back again. You won me over after my visit on your SITS day!
I love this, too. I’m always pleased when others expose me to poetry.
Now THAT is my kinda poem! Thanks for posting that!
Love that poem.
But you are WAY braver than I am to whisper that to a guy.
Closest I would get to that would be a simple Haiku for my hubby:
Hey want to get laid
I think the kid is asleep
Leave the lights off please
I think I know that haiku.
LOL PrincessJen – way too familiar!
I love the poem Maria – I think I’ll use that in a Valentine’s card this year
You’re such a romantic! I still can’t believe that you didn’t fall for Edward Cullen… he’s no Yeats but he has that bed hair…
Great post Maria! Vampire love forever!
LOL, I actually really love this poem!!
I’m laughing at the thought of the guys face when you whispered it in to his ear, LOL!! Great stuff!
Just loved this post… coming from SITS. Random, but are you going to Bloggy Boot Camp in Baltimore?
I’m not actually – but it sounds like it’s going to be fantastic. Have a great time.
Hi!
I was the commenter below you and I’m so glad you were the one! Oh, how I love poetry and Yeats. To me, it is the dance of words at its highest plane. Beautiful choice.
And speaking of poetic, clearly that dude was an assbag.
I found you the other day when you were the chosen blogger of the day. Loved your site.If you read your comments, I was the girl who went on and on and on… I’ll be reading from now on. Oh, and Happy Sits Saturday Sharefest!
Here’s a link to one of my recent favorites.

Thanks for sharing this love poem. I’ve been looking for a piece of art to hang near our wine and liquor cabinet – think I just found what I want there now
Oh, and Modern Family is a hoot! (You tweeted some of my fave lines from that episode.) That show is my motivation to power through Wednesdays.
so nice to see someone else who likes poetry these days. I reference poetry a lot on my blog and always appreciate reading new poetry.
by the way, i have found in the past that too much wine “in the mouth” would make me love men that i would not have thought much of sober. why is that? sometimes I find that wine helps me like more husband more too
I like to read and write poetry. I especially enjoy Emily Dickinson.
