Centreville Amusement Park – Toronto Island

by MARIA on August 22, 2010

I was recently invited to visit the Centreville Amusement Park on Toronto Island with my family.  We’ve been meaning to go for ages, so this was a nice push to finally make the trip out there – and once we showed our kids the Centreville website, they were definitely excited. We headed up to Toronto for the weekend, and made the trip out to Toronto Island on a cloudy Sunday morning. To get over to the park, you have to take a ferry, and this was a very thrilling prospect for my kids (ages 6 and 3). After the short ferry ride, our 6 year old proclaimed, “this is the best day ever!” Good Start.

Centreville is “nestled in over 600 acres of parkland just across the harbour from the city. With over 30 rides and attractions and more than 14 food outlets, there’s something for everyone…” It’s true – there was so much to do and really not enough time for us to do it all, because we left it a little too late after a late lunch. Regardless, we had a blast. The kids were super excited about going on the rides and it was fun to watch them run and explore all the paths on the island. We rode the bumble bees, the swan ride, the fire engines, the bumper boats, and the carousel just to name a few. However, our favorite by far, was the twirling tea cups, no question. My kids insisted we ride it over and over again – to the point of almost making my husband sick (that may or may not have been my favorite part).

Of course, there are so many more things to do including more rides like the ferris wheel and the coaster, the sky ride and another family favorite, mini golf. How about bicycle rentals, boat rentals, the Franklin Children’s Garden, the Children’s Theatre, a splash pad and a blue flag rated beach?? Yup, you will spend hours there and have a great time doing it. Also, if you hit the island on an empty stomach, there are two restaurants, many food outlets and 40 beautiful picnic sites for enjoying your own picnic lunch.

The island is beautiful, so make sure to take the time to enjoy it as long as possible. And make sure you look out toward Toronto, when riding the ferry back, the skyline is fantastic.

For more information about the Centreville Amusement Park, please go to their website and find them on Facebook and Twitter. The park is open May through September, so check their site for their operating hours. We had a fantastic time visiting Centreville and the kids are excited about going back very soon! Thanks so much for hosting us!

FYI: We were offered free admission to come and experience Centreville and blog about our experience – my opinions are my own (and my family’s!)

One of my favourite places in Toronto! Your kids are gorgeous! I have a picture when I was little (believe it! Really – I was little once!) on that train too! :)

Thanks Sandy! They rode those cars several times – my daughter started wailing when she had to get off. Good times.
