Little One Books – Review and Giveaway – CLOSED

by MARIA on November 13, 2010

Little One Books is a new online book store based in Seattle, offering books, cds and dvds to children up to the age of five. The store was started by Barry Cohen and Joan McCoy, grandparents who wanted to provide a place where other grandparents, and parents could come, to find a selection that has been handpicked and rated personally by their staff – as their tagline says, “Chosen with care.” You can shop by product, and also by age, which makes it so much easier to find what is appropriate based on the developmental stage the child happens to be in.

Little One Books contacted me and offered me a children’s book to review, as an opportunity to promote their new site. I was happy to do it, because I am a book lover, and especially a children’s book lover, and this site really makes me feel like I’m hanging out in a neighbourhood bookshop.

I requested a copy of the much adored Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes to review for this giveaway. Both of my kids first heard this book read to them by their Kindergarten teacher on their first day of school. When they opened the package from Little One Books, they both yelled out how they knew the book and really enjoyed it. I have to agree with them – I adore this book. It is the sweetest story about a little mouse named Chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum loves her name and feels so special because of it. However, the other little mice at school don’t agree – they tease her relentlessly. So she go homes every day, feeling defeated and hating her name. That is until she meets Mrs. Twinkle. If I tell you anymore, I will ruin it for you, so I won’t. I will say that I love everything about this book – it’s sweet, the illustrations are perfect and it has a lovely message.

Little One Books is offering one of my readers a $25 gift certificate to spend on their site!!

How to Enter:

Please go and check out Little One Books, and let me know what you would spend your $25 g.c. on in a comment below! That’s your entry! Make sure you also leave your email or Twitter handle, so that I can contact you if you win!

THAT’S IT!!

*Open to U.S. and Canadian residents*

*This giveaway ends FRIDAY, November 19th, 2010*

GOOD LUCK and enjoy checking out their site. You can also find Little One Books on Twitter and Facebook!

I love so many of the books in the 3 year old section. We would definitely have to get Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, The Little Engine That Could and Llama Llama Misses Mama.

There are definitely lots of books my son would love. I think we’d go with Where’s My Teddy and Where’s Spot and I Spy Little Book.

I would like the Chrysanthemum book that you got. Having grown up with a name that few people had even heard before Desperate Housewives, I can relate.

I would get “I Love Planes” for my almost-2 year old, or, “How Does A Dinosaur Go To School.”
I might also get Chrysanthemum for my almost-4 year old. Because of your review but also because I’d LOVE to hear her say Chrysanthemum.
SOOO many great choices!

Without question, another copy of “The Paper Bag Princess”. Ours is beaten, worn out, falling apart, and the last few pages have disappeared. But our daughter loves it anyhow!

we would buy dream snow by eric carle for my two year old daughter. this past week it snowed for the first time here, everyday she was asking to “touch the snow” and digging around in it with her sandbox shovels. she would get a kick out of santa being on the cover, too.
