Siblings – Love and Rivalry

by MARIA on June 8, 2011

Look at these little sweeties.

I made them.

I am aces at creating humans.

Clearly.

But, I cannot lie – the little people confuse me.

They operate on two spectrums – love and fight.

When they’re in each other’s good books, they can play for HOURS, they laugh, they giggle, they are a dream.

When they’re fighting, it’s this continuous banter of ” Go away, you’re bothering me, I wish I had a sister, don’t touch my toys, leave me alone, that’s mine!”

It would drive any sane person to drink. Heavily. This is why I can’t quit the Diet Coke & Starbucks – they are my vodka.

Coming from a family of five kids, I knew that sibling bickering and rivalry would be a given, but I had no idea it would start this early. And let’s be honest, it can only get worse with age, right?

I’m going to have to move out when they hit teenager. And buy super-powered earplugs.

Oh, and I plan on billing them for each gray hair I find from now on until they move out.

I’m nice like that.

It is so brutal sometimes – who knew four and seven year olds could be that annoying!!

They are gorgeous. I have to admit I was hoping that you had posted a pic of them fighting too… you know for contrast. ;) We have the same problems over here. Bah.

Yeah, mine are like that, too. Except without the hours of love. It’s more like 5 minutes of like and then constant fighting where someone ends up crying.

It’s the same over here. Except just like Kid Things, it’s not hours of love. I’m lucky if they play nicely for 15 minutes tops…and then it’s usually because they’re doing something like emptying the entire sandbox into my pond.

Oh yes, the sibling rivalry. My nearly 6.5 year old and almost 2 year old have started this already. It’s EXHAUSTING!!!! I always tell them they’re lucky they’re cute. LOL

Ha. I do the same, although sadly it has less effect the older they get. Thankfully, they are still open to bribes, if video games are involved!

I think it’s fantastic they get along at all at this age. My sister and I were a 20/80 fight/love split until she was 25 years old. And yes, bill ‘em. Bill ‘em till THEY have grey hair!

Damn, I was really hoping that they would stay in this nicey nice phase, but my daughter is only 18 months. Once she forms her own opinions I’m sure there will be battles in my house too. I am not ready for it!
