My Kids Perfect Lunch

by MARIA on November 2, 2011

My son has always been a very difficult child to feed. Every single thing he ate made him gag, and the minute it did, that food item was something he would never touch again. We got to the point where the only things he would eat were pureed apricot, firm bananas, bread, potatoes and plain pasta.

Mealtimes were torture.

As he got older, it got better but variety was NOT his spice of life. I was worried about school lunches, but that was put to bed when he insisted that he come home every day for lunch

Fast forward to my now seven year old who is a much better eater but still likes what he likes.

On the days when he needs to stay for lunch, I usually make him a turkey sandwich (the only type of sandwich he’ll eat), and also include a banana, cheese & crackers, water, juice box and something chocolate. And yes, he basically eats the same thing every time he stays for lunch.

However,  if my little man was choosing his perfect lunch? It would be the following:

  • grilled chicken breast with caesar salad (from his pappou’s (grandpa) restaurant
  • fresh bread with tarama (yes he likes his Greek grandpa’s food)
  • a barely ripe banana – but only if forced to take a piece of fruit
  • anything chocolate
  • really cold water
Oh, and he would appreciate his lunch items at their perfect temperature too, thank you very much.

Kids are fun.
