Weight Watchers Week One And 100 Shiny Gems

by MARIA on March 22, 2012

Ola.

Hope you’re all enjoying the gorgeous weather out there.

So, before I talk about my first week back on the Weight Watchers, I wanted to blog about this great idea I read about that I am now going to borrow for my own weight loss.

I want to give credit to the blog/site that I saw this on, but I honestly cannot remember where I saw it because it was ages ago.

If I do find it, I promise to come back and give due credit – in the meantime, whoever thought of this, thank you and you’re very clever.

When you have a lot of weight to lose, it can be extremely overwhelming and perhaps, slightly depressing. So, having a tangible way of looking at how much you’ve lost, in terms of actual numbers, can help make it seem less overwhelming.

I hope anyway.

Introducing: The Jars of Weight Loss. The Gem Jars. The Gem Jars of Weight Loss. I have no idea what to call these, clearly.

You take two jars.

First jar is the total amount of weight you want to lose, mine was filled with 100 little plastic gems – thanks dollar store. (you can use marbles, stones, pennies, diamonds, whatever)

Second jar is for the weight you do lose.

As you lose weight, you move the gems into the pounds lost jar. Eventually, if you work your butt off, you’ve moved all the shiny, plastic gems into that jar.

I just love this idea, because seriously, who wants to look at that empty jar? Not moi, so I’ll be posting a pic of my jar every week.

SO, how did my first week back go?

Weight LOST this week: 2.5

Weight Lost to date:  2.5

Weight left to Lose: 97.5

I lost 2.5 pounds in my first week back. It’s alright but I know it could have been more – this isn’t 2.5 lbs of working my ass off. If it was, it would have been higher.

But any weight loss is a win, right?

For this next week, the goal is to exercise and to stick to the plan 95% of the time.

How was your week? If your following along and/or also working to lose weight and get healthy, please leave a comment below with your link so I can come visit. I’ve decided to get rid of the linky for now, but I still want to support you so let me know. If you’re interested in Weight Watchers and want to know more, I wrote a post about the program yesterday with deets on how the whole thing works, so feel free to check it out.

(FYI: None of the Weight Watchers posts are sponsored.)

It’s so funny I came across your post this morning, because over the weekend, I realized with a start that August will be here before we know it, and it’s time to put the chips away (and not in my night table, as I’ve been doing for the past two years). I applaud you for joining a structured program and wish you much success! I’ve revamped my diet and hope I’ll be able to hi-five you in NYC with some healthy weight loss of my own. Good luck!

I like the visual motivation and that you’ve chosen pretty gems instead of ugly images of fat. But I lovr that you are aiming for 95% compliance. People need to stay away from all or nothing thinking; thanks for the reminder.

Good luck.

way to go on the 2.5 lbs. I weighed in last night and I was down .5 which is good. But then I looked and realized that I have 23lbs to lose. That put me in a bit of a downer but I’ve gotta keep going. A friend from my previous WW group used to buy pounds of lard to represent the pounds she lost. Your gems are much prettier! :)

That is such a neat idea Maria! I love that you are using gems. They are so pretty. I really need to get my head in a better place so I can begin taking better care of myself. I have zero motivation and no energy. I am tired of being tired.

Good for you for living a healthier lifestyle!

I do love that weight loss jar idea!! I saw it on pinterest and have said several times that I want to do it, but of course I haven’t. So now, this post reminded me about it and I’m going to use some of my time off tomorrow to buy the supplies to do it!!!

This week for me was better than last week when I had a huge gain. This week I was in the negative but I’m still over my starting weight. Trying not to dwell too much and to keep plugging forward. :) Congrats on YOUR loss!! 2.5 in a week is awesome!! :)

Excellent idea. Maybe I need to do this just to help me lose the 10 pounds I’ve put back on! Seriously…

And congrats on your loss! You’re on your way. :)

Hey! What a great idea! I did see this on Pinterest and thought that I should really do it. I think after reading your post, it gave me the push. I’ve been doing the Weight Watchers since January. To date I’ve lost 16 lbs. I have about 45 more lbs. to go. I fell off the Weight Watcher’s wagon this week. I’m rather lazy and tired of inputting all my food, even though they do make it as easy as possible for us (I’m doing it online). Again, your post might just give me the push I need. Thank you lady!

I’ll be checking back in to see how “we’re” doing :)

Good luck!!

Congrats on the loss. I just started myself last week and I’m using my fitness pal, another online tracking system. The best feature they have is when I complete my log for the day it give me a message “if you continue with days like today you will weigh xxx in 5 weeks”, great motivation to stay on track!

Hiring my apprentice I knew that I’d be on my own until 11:30 a.m. every Saturday morning. I believe in my apprentice and she believes in WW. Saturday morning is her time to weigh in for better or for worse, to share and be shared with. After years of floating along sort of in and out of WW, she now has consistently lost each week to a tune of 15 pounds in six weeks ! It’s hard to be alone on the morning of the busiest day of our week, but she’s worth it.

I have been trying to lose weight since January, I made it one of my goals this year. I have a goal of 60 pounds gone by Blogher.

For me staying motivated is my hardest challenge. I like the gem idea. It gives you the visual that you are getting the job done. I think this is something I might want to try.

What a fantastic idea, I think I am going to steal it ;) I have to be honest and say I have not lost a pound in the past few weeks, but I have come to a new realization about how to go about losing the weight and it is not about dates and timelines, its about reduction….and one day at a time! I posted my new idea on my blog today http://gendmom.com/ “Losing It (minus) One Timbit At A Time”.

I should also say that I apologize full heartedly to Tim Hortons, you have been an excellent friend and enabler for my habit and love for the sweeter things in life, but I must back away from you now and create some healthy space between us, and although I know you will be calling me from almost every street corner in Canada I am hoping I can be strong enough to make this break up stick!

I have lost 37 pounds since Dec. 2011, I have tried everything, and every program. I was sick of spending money. I have bought an armband that tells you calories in and calories out from exercise it picks up any kind of walking, it even picks up how much calories you burn while you sit , sleep ,so really you are in the know. It really is as mum says back to basics, everything works as long as you stick to it, I just find that when I can see the results on the computer screen that I burned 2800 calories and ate 1565 I know I am on the right track. I put in what I eat from my phone and computer, so when I cheat I am only cheating against myself, I starting walking and then everyday I try and beat myself and I have 95 percent of the time. Change your routine shake things up and be strong. I love the way I feel loads of energy and I look great 3 pounds to go and then I will still stick to it.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I think I am on week 9 and am down about 17 pounds. Its so easy to do I don’t anticipate wanting to stop until I have lost the 50 I want. The gems are a great idea! Think I will use little rocks …..

OK, I’m inspired. I just had my card charged for my WW subscription which I intended to cancel, because I haven’t been following the program for about 2 months. But I know I need to do it. I have about 100 to lose too and it’s so depressing to read blogs about weight loss when someone is trying to lose 20 pounds, at least for me. So I’m going to flow along with you and get back on track. I love the jars!!! I think I’ll make a stop at the dollar store tomorrow and start some of my own. I love them!!

Thanks Thauna!! The jars really do help because you just want to see those gems move over and it keeps you on track!!

What a great idea! My mom and I are starting back up with Weight Watchers on Wednesday. This could be a good motivator for the both of us :)
