ABBA You Can Dance Wii Game Review

1st April 2012

Who doesn’t love ABBA??

I love ABBA – I always have. Actually, I used to listen to them so much in the car when the kids were younger that they really good at singing it too.

As a Ubichamp, I was sent a copy of the Wii game ABBA You Can Dance to review, and I had a feeling if ABBA was involved, this was going to be a great game. This game is also from the creators of the Just Dance games which, if you’ve ever tried them, you’ll know it’s a guaranteed great time!

ABBA You Can Dance does not disappoint. It’s super fun! We had a blast dancing to the music and competing to see who would get the highest score for accuracy in moves. I also loved that it shows the lyrics to the songs on the screen so that you can sing along while you dance. The Dance part of the game features 26 different songs to dance to, where up to four people can dance at the same time. There is also a Mini Musical, which is similar to the dancing but a longer dancing segment, again with four people being able to play. There is also karaoke section that allows you to sing to 15 different ABBA songs while the video plays in the background.

I loved this game and my kids did too. We played for a very long time – just watching them dance along as best they could was so damn adorable. This is the game you want to take to a party – everyone would enjoy it. I’m definitely taking it along Easter weekend, so we can have a laugh and get our ABBA on at the same time. It does not disappoint – definitely pick this one up!

It’s available for purchase at Amazon.com for $19.99.

The Smurfs Dance Party Wii Game – Review

30th August 2011

I was really excited to be chosen as part of the new UbiChamps program with the CleverGirls recently (LOVE the CleverGirls)FYI: If you don’t know who the Clever Girls are, you’re missing out – go here for more info!

As an official UbiChamp, I will receive Ubisoft games to review throughout the year – and the first one we received was The Smurfs Dance Party for the Wii. I happily volunteered for this one because I thought both my seven and my four year old would enjoy it.

The Smurf Dance Party, from the makers of Just Dance, is a super fun dance game starring the Smurfs – which are everywhere right now and really popular again. The game is based on their new movie, The Smurfs, which is great because you actually get to see clips of the movie when playing the Story mode of the game – my kids enjoyed that. The game also be played in Dance mode, which is purely dancing along to the various songs. Players can earn awards when completing or reaching certain parts of the game and parents can even keep track of game statistics including play time and calories burned. (I will say that I was surprised to see the calorie tracker actually – it’s not really something I think is necessary for a kids game to be honest.)

I love that, as long as you can hold the remote correctly, you are able to play the game – this really allows the younger set to have fun. Songs also range in level of difficulty, so that adult players can also be challenged. Although I left most of the game playing to my kids, I tried it out and danced to a few of the songs. I found it really fun, especially when playing “against” my kids, and actually a bit of a workout. The game also has a team mode so that players can play as teams, and a freeze and shake mode for more fun. The songs were upbeat and catchy, and my kids were singing along right from the get go. Proof it’s a cute game? Look below – there’s Papa Smurf getting down. How can you stand the cute?

So what did my seven year old son think of it?

“I thought it was really fun – some of the dancing was easy, and some was hard. My favorite part is when they show parts from the movie. My least favorite part is that it only involves dancing.” (I found the last part of his review kind of hilarious, seeing this is a DANCE game.)

And let’s not forget what the four year old thinks,

“I didn’t like that the bad guy (Gargamel) is singing – he looked mean. But I LOVED the character Smurfette and what Smurfette was singing because she’s so cute. It was a great game – I loved the Smurf Dance Party game.”

Here’s a short video of the kids playing the game for the first time:

I think this is a fun game that the entire family will enjoy, especially the little ones. You can find it here on Amazon.com and ToysRUs.com.

Ubisoft Your Shape Xbox Kinect Game – Review & Giveaway

    14th March 2011

It’s amazing how many options now exist when working out at home.

Your Shape for the Xbox Kinect is actually the first workout game that my kids and I have had a chance to try out on the Xbox 360. As with all the Kinect games, you require no controller – just room to move, so that the sensors can properly read you.

Your Shape begins by allowing you to create your profile, and it literally scans your body to take measurements, which will then be used to tailor exercises for you. The kids were AMAZED by the body scanning – they got to see Mommy’s “bones” so it was a thrill for them. Less thrilling for me was the very realistic reflection looking back at me during the workout – not pretty at all. Also, a huge eye-opener, as if I need yet another one.

The game is separated into three different fitness modes – Personal Training, Fitness Classes, and Gym Games. The Training is the main part of Your Shape, where you work along with a trainer on over 80 different exercises routines. It is extremely accurate, and it had no problem reading my every move. The Fitness Classes include Cardio Boxing and Zen – loved the cardio boxing routine that I tried out. It was really fun, and a great workout. Finally, the Gym Glasses were the biggest hit with my kids, and again, really fun.

I think this is a great option for working out at home, and a family-friendly one too!!
