The Hunger Games Trilogy – A Lazy Review

2nd March 2012

Ok, so I, like every other person on the planet have read The Hunger Games trilogy.

Sort of.

Here’s my lazy, very short, not much of a review at all, review.

Book One: The Hunger Games

  • Super Fantastic, great premise, likeable characters and whatever else I need to tell you to convey that this thing is one enjoyable read. If you’re near a beach, that much better.
  • You won’t be able to put the thing down.
  • You’ll read it in a day if you ignore your children, housework and the telephone. (Not in that order)
  • I read it in a day.
Book Two: Catching Fire
  • Really good but not super fantastic.
  • A bit of a slow start but picks up and becomes a can’t put it down after about the third chapter.
  • Its slow start allows you to get some dishes done, possibly some laundry. The children might even get fed.
  • I read it in a few days.

Book Three: Mockingjay

  • Not remotely super fantastic.
  • I’ll be honest, I’m still trying to finish this one – it is kind of, really boring compared to the first two.
  • I almost prefer doing laundry than reading this book.
  • Thankfully, I borrowed this from my lovely and understanding girlyfriend, because I’ve had it FOREVER.
  • I plan on finishing Mockingjay at some point. Currently being used as a paperweight.

I will say that despite my sheer boredom re: book three, I am super excited about seeing the movie, which comes out this month, March 23rd!!

Here’s a clip!

What did you think of the books? Will you see the movie?….Can you pick me up? I need a movie date.

BULLY – Sign The Petition, See the Movie

29th February 2012

Every 7 minutes a child is bullied on school grounds, adults intervene 4% of the time, peers intervene 11% of the time, but 85% of the time there is no intervention. 18 million children are bullied each year – that is 1 out of 4 teens. 9 out of 10 LGBT students experience harassment at school and online.

These numbers are horrifying, and as a mother, they scare the shit of me. No lie.

This is a movie that everyone needs to see. Sadly, the MPAA gave the movie an R-rating, which only prevents teens from seeing it. Katy Butler, a Michigan high school student started a petition in an effort to get the MPAA to change the rating. PLEASE consider signing the petition I’ve linked to below, because every signature counts:

BULLY: Directed by Sundance and Emmy-award winning filmmaker, Lee Hirsch, Bully is a beautifully cinematic, character-driven documentary. At its heart are those with huge stakes in this issue whose stories each represent a different facet of America’s bullying crisis. Bully follows five kids and families over the course of a school year. Stories include two families who have lost children to suicide and a mother awaiting the fate of her 14-year-old daughter who has been incarcerated after bringing a gun on her school bus. With an intimate glimpse into homes, classrooms, cafeterias and principals’ offices, the film offers insight into the often cruel world of the lives of bullied children. As teachers, administrators, kids and parents struggle to find answers, Bully examines the dire consequences of bullying through the testimony of strong and courageous youth. Through the power of their stories, the film aims to be a catalyst for change in the way we deal with bullying as parents, teachers, children and society as a whole.

Watch the trailer – but I warn you – your heart will break.

Matthew’s Day Off – Video

30th January 2012

I am of the Ferris Bueller generation – yup that makes me cool.

So when I saw this video, I was super excited!

I assumed it meant a sequel, because don’t we all want to know if Old Ferris Bueller, with the probable receding hairline, is still adorably cool?

Alas, we’re not so lucky, it turns out it’s only a Superbowl ad dammit.

Cute, and very reminiscent of the movie, but just an ad nevertheless. How sad for us.

Also, proof that Matthew Broderick does not age.

The PEN Project

20th December 2011

What happens when you give away 1000 cameras to 1000 people in 6 cities?

It’s called The Pen Project.

Olympus wanted to prove that everyday people can take unbelievable photos, so they randomly gave away 1000 Olympus PEN® E-PM1 cameras to 1000 very lucky people.

Check out all the photos taken here:  The Pen Ready Project.

One of the lucky cities was Toronto – see how some were surprised with their very own Pen camera below.

Have you ever experienced a flash mob? I haven’t personally, but even watching them warms my cockles.

I ADORE this one by T-Mobile at Chicagoland area’s Woodfield Mall that features There’s No Place Like Home For The Holidays.

Enjoy!!

Anderson Cooper Gets The Giggles – Video

19th August 2011

I’ve always really liked Anderson Cooper, but after watching this clip of him getting the giggles, I love him even more.

He’s reporting about Gerard Depardieu’s jackass move of urinating on the floor in the middle of an airplane, because he didn’t want to wait until the plane was in the air.

Watch until the end – it’s hilarious. Oui Oui.
