Win A One Year Subscription To Netflix Canada!

10th December 2012

I’m a BIG fan of Netflix Canada.

Great tv shows, classic movies, fantastic documentaries and a special kid’s section that my kids LOVE. All for $8 a month – can’t beat that.

New research from Netflix and Leger Marketing shows that watching movies together is amongst the top five holiday traditions in Canada. According to the survey of Canadians who celebrate the holidays, over half (58 per cent) of households with children reported that they watch movies together during the holidays.

I’m not really surprised by this stat at all – we definitely fit into that 58 percent. We’re a big movie family – we love to watch movies together and during the month of December, we try to watch as many Christmas movies as possible. As a kid with four siblings, we loved renting a ton of movies to watch during the winter holiday. The only downfall was the older brothers picked most of the movies – I still remember hiding under blankets while my brothers watched Charles Bronson’s Death Wish flicks. Unfortunately for me, my brothers thought anything Death Wish was VERY Christmas-y.

Good times back in the day.

Another aspect of the Netflix survey suggests that even though Canadians find it difficult to find the perfect gift, most believe it’s the thought that counts. For many Canadians, a meaningful gift does not include a hefty price tag as the majority of Canadian gift givers (86 per cent) feel you don’t need to spend a lot to give a great gift; half (49 per cent) say it’s possible to purchase a great holiday gift under $10. “At just $8 a month for unlimited TV and movies, gifting a Netflix subscription provides great value for gift-givers weary of going into the red this holiday season.”

You can give the gift of Netflix to your friends and families by heading to the Netflix site here and purchase a Netflix gift card. Gift subscriptions are available from one month to a year.

In the spirit of giving and sharing my joy of movies, I am giving away a ONE YEAR subscription to Netflix Canada!!

Holiday Gift Ideas – Music

6th December 2012

Confession: I’m that person that drives by you in the middle of the day with music blaring, base pumping….in a minivan.

Yes, I am very cool.

I can’t help it – the louder it is the more it drowns out the children. I mean, loud music makes me happy.

So with that, how about some gift ideas for the music lovers in your life.

For Holiday Music Lovers:

Eleanor McCain – Holiday

Eleanor McCain is a Canadian singer with a lovely, angelic voice. Her latest album celebrates the holidays with 19 traditional songs, some up-tempo and some more intimate. This is a perfect cd for the season!

For Your Tween:

One DirectionTake Me Home

These boys are adorable and their songs are so fun and poppy and the kids love them. Their new cd, Take Me Home, is on my kids’ list this year.

For Your Best Girlfriend:

Mumford & SonsBabel

I love Mumford & Sons – this cd is guaranteed to be a hit with anyone you gift it to, including your bestie.

For Classical Music Fans:

Jonathan & Charlotte – Together

If you have spent anytime online you will recognize Jonathan & Charlotte from their audition video from Britain’s Got Talent on YouTube (it received over 26 million hits). Although they came second, they got a recording contract with Simon Cowell and their new CD has been released. It is just fantastic!!

For Fifty Shades Fans:

Fifty Shades of Grey: The Classical Album

Did you read these books? I’m pretty sure everyone and their mother read these books. If you did, you may remember the many classical music references and if you thought, oh how I wish these were all compiled into a dvd for my listening pleasure, you have been heard!

For Those Who Like To Boogie

Kesha – Warrior, Rihanna – Unapologetic, Green Day – Tre!

To continue the holiday spirit of giving, I’m giving away FIVE copies of Eleanor McCain’s Holiday CDs!!

Eleanor McCain is “a classical crossover artist. My song choices draw from classical, celtic, folk, pop and jazz genres – My hope is that the experience is intimate, poignant and filled with an emotion that is genuine and wonderfully human.” Eleanor has four CDs available for purchase which you can find here, and right now, with every Eleanor McCain CD purchased online, Eleanor will donate 10% to Hospice Toronto.

All I Want For Mother’s Day

12th May 2012

Mother’s Day is this weekend and that means that I will be spoiled and pampered and regaled all day Sunday.

Probably not.

I’ve been married a LONG time (11+ years) and a mom for 8+ years, and I’ve learned that the secret to a happy (LASTING) marriage and life is to LOWER ONE’S EXPECTATIONS.

Now let me just say that I have what I really want for Mother’s Day:

However, I’m always open to helping the husband along with a list or a strategically placed catalog because he’s always so desperate to please me (insert sarcastic cackles here).

SO, I’ve decided to share a few ideas of what I would LOVE for Mother’s Day.

  • I would love to sleep in. I do not exist before 9 a.m.
  • I would LOVE to go out for breakfast for some Eggs Benny because, YUM.
  • I would love something from the kids that they made/drew/wrote for me. (I know I’m getting this one because they both informed me NOT to look under their beds or I would “be arrested.”)
  • Also, if you happen to be anywhere near a Roots store, best husband ever, I like this one:

Oh and look at the Links of London shiny things:

Oh and anything from Chuck works for me but look at him sparkle:

You are welcome, husband.

May you get the love, recognition and respect you all deserve!

Prezzies For The Royals

28th April 2011

I can’t believe that I still haven’t decided what to buy for Prince Billy and his girl Katie for their upcoming, very low-key wedding. I’m assuming they registered at IKEA and Marks and Spencer but I could be wrong. However, I’ve got some great ideas that I think would be perfect for the delightfully overexposed couple.

1. BUG VACUUM (Hammacher $60) – because centipedes  DO NOT discriminate.

The Keep Your Distance Bug Vacuum.

2. Large Stuffed Cheetah (FAO $70) – Everyone needs a stuffed cat – obviously

Melissa & Doug Lifelike and Lovable Plush Cheetah - Melissa & Doug - Lions & Other Big Cats - FAO Schwarz®

3. The Critically Acclaimed Masterpiece, A Shore Thing by Snooki ($Can’t possibly be more than a dollar) – They may need to start a fire at some point and paper will help.

A Shore Thing

4. The BACON COLLECTION (McPhee $40)  – Bacon needs no explanation.

5. Finger Tentacles (McPhee $10) – Will make shaking all those hands bearable.

Decisions, Decisions.

Mama's Losin' It

Thanks to the lovely Mama Kat for the fun post idea!!
