My Must Read Book List for AUGUST #Books

10th August 2015

If you know me at all, you know that I am a book addict.

NOTHING makes me happier than books. Nothing. Not even handbags, or lattes, or even my boyfriend, Colin Firth. Give me a pile of books to read and I’m a happy girl.

I have this recurring daydream that I’m like the Tom Hanks character in The Terminal, where he’s trapped in an airport terminal for weeks, except I’m trapped in a bookstore for weeks, and eventually have to be forcibly removed, because I don’t actually want to leave. I love this daydream.

Not weird at all. Totally Normal.

Anyway, as a book addict I have a pile of books always waiting for me, both on my iPad and my bedside table, so I thought I would share what’s on my must read list for this month.

This is what I’m currently reading, and received it as an arc from Simon & Schuster Canada. This is the first book I’ve read by Jennifer Weiner but I’m currently 37 pages in and already really enjoying it so I have high hopes and have heard nothing but great things.

This is this month’s #WorldsBiggestBookClub pick for Chapters Indigo and was actually sent to me by them, to read in time for their book club Twitter discussion (August 26 at 7pm EST). They do this every month (last month’s read was Me Before You by JoJo Moyes and I LOVED it) and I think it’s a great way to discover some new authors you may not have read otherwise.

This book keeps disappearing in my house, because my eight year old is obsessed with dogs and wants to read it before I do. It’s a funny, quirky memoir written by a Dr. Jessica Vogelsang, a veterinarian and promises to appeal to anyone who has ever loved or lost a beloved pet.

THE SAINT, THE KING, THE VIRGIN (The Original Sinners: White Years series) – TIFFANY REISZ

If you’re a fan of the erotica genre, and you haven’t read Tiffany Reisz’s The Original Sinners series, you are so missing out. Her books are absolutely some of the best I’ve read, and her writing is perfection. I just read the first four books of the series (The Siren, The Angel, The Prince, The Mistress) over the last week or so and I could not put them down – yes they came out in 2012, so clearly I’m a little slow in my appreciation. The White Series books are the next three books in the series, with the fourth coming out in November. READ THESE BOOKS!!

Normally my monthly MUST READ list would be much longer but with back to school coming up, the planning of a garage sale and my niece’s wedding happening in the next three weeks, I figure I should stop while I’m ahead.

So, have you read any of these books? What did you think? What’s on your August Must Read Book list???

Shopping For A Birthday Present at Indigo Kids and a Giveaway! – CLOSED

5th March 2012

I was really happy to be chosen to write about Indigo Kids, because if you know me, you know that I spend an obscene amount of time at Chapters/Indigo, and when I have the kids with me, we always stop at Indigo Kids.

Our Indigo Kids location was actually recently renovated, and it is huge! There are places to enjoy hands-on play, room to participate in crafts and coloring, reading sections and endless shelving packed with books and toys. If you’re looking for a birthday gift for any child, odds are good you will find something perfect among the Indigo Kids shelves.

I headed to the store Sunday afternoon in search of a gift for my niece who was celebrating her 2nd birthday Sunday evening. With both kids in tow, we walked around for a bit first, so the kids could also have the chance to look at things. They seem to always hover around their favorite areas, in hopes that Mommy will be in the “let’s get something just because” kind of mood. Mommy is a bit of a pushover, so I get that look much more often than Daddy. (No such luck today – sorry kiddos!)

I checked out the sections geared towards the younger set, and also did a bit of a search on the computers that you’ll find though out the store. As soon as I saw the outdoor play items, I immediately knew what I wanted to buy the little one – some cute things from the Melissa and Doug Sunny Patch line. This is what I bought:

After I paid for the items and told the cashier that they were for a birthday present, she helpfully removed all the stickers, and put everything in a gift bag with tissue for me. Anything you purchase from Indigo Kids can be gift wrapped as well. During the holidays, this was super convenient, and I took advantage of it several times.

Some other great in-store benefits:

  • FREE GIFT WRAP (gift bags) is now available on kids’ purchases (as mentioned above).
  • Great book AND toy recommendations by age.
  • Wide, stroller-friendly aisles and colourful décor – a comfortable shopping experience for parents AND kids.
  • Earn plum rewards with virtually every purchase.

Of course, you can also shop the Indigo Kids products and books online where you’ll find:

  • Great recommendations by age
  • Gift wrap and personalize message available for $4.95
  • Free shipping on orders greater than $25

The gift was a big hit and my five year old informed me that she wants the whole lot as well. Awesome.

So, since I’ve talked about Indigo Kids so much, I would love to give you the chance to do some shopping of your own!

HOLIDAY – Chapters Indigo

20th November 2011

I LOVE Chapters.

I spend an obscene amount of time there. Being someone that LOVES books, I can’t help myself.

The kids are obsessed with the new Children’s section, which I try to avoid as much as possible because it empties my wallet.

And then the gift section in our location got overhauled, and it is beyond fabulous.

I love everything in their home section. I may or may not go there often and stare at the pretty things.

They’ve also just brought in tons of new items, just in time for your holiday shopping. I thought I would share some of my favorite gift ideas with you!!

  • Glass Carafe – $22.50
  • Cheese Knife Set – $29.99
  • Retro Milk Bottle Cream & Sugar Set – $9.50

  •  Wine Monkey – $12.00
  • Zuny Beaver – (Couldn’t find it online but too cute not to include)
  • White Owl Ornament – $12.50
  • Owl Candle – $12.50

Will you be shopping at Chapters during the holidays? Can I forward you my list?
