Growing up, my family of seven weren’t really dessert eaters – except for fruit, we never really ate desserts after dinner. Desserts were left for special occasions and events, like weddings and birthdays. And then I married someone who was served dessert, every night after his dinner. Polar opposites learn to compromise in marriage, if they want to stay married. So, we’ve compromised as our own little family – dessert is something we definitely on occasion, especially during the hotter months. Sadly, despite my best intentions when it comes to baking, I’m not that great at it. I tend to fail more often than not, and the end result never looks like what it’s supposed to look like. This can be a problem when I’ve promised the kids and the husband a special treat after dinner. So I fake it.
Fake it ’til you make it!
You can easily pick up the components to a great dessert, assemble them and make them your own, and your family will gobble them up with zero complaint. There are so many desserts you can make this way, but I’ll share two that I’ve made (assembled) before that the family enjoyed.
Take a strawberry sponge cake, add your fruit of choice, which is always strawberries for us, and of course, a GENEROUS dollop of COOL WHIP Whipped Topping. YUM
Simple but pretty tasty.
Clearly, I’m not a food stylist either – sorry.
This one is delicious too – take one chocolate molten lava cake, and add COOL WHIP. Full stop.
Of course, you can make it more exciting with fruit as well, but since the lava cake is SO rich and chocolaty, a dollop of COOL WHIP is a perfect addition.
COOL WHIP is also a yummy addition to an ice cream sundae, an iced coffee or a bowl of fresh berries too.
