Oscars Dessert Party #LMDConnector

30th January 2013

I’m not a big football fan so the odds of a Superbowl party this year are out.

However, I am planning to watch the Oscars on February 24th (despite Seth MacFarlane being the host – blah) and what better way to enjoy the Oscars then with a Prosecco and Desserts party!

Nothing beats a cold glass of Prosecco, and I think a dessert party takes the pressure off the host (especially if the host, ie. me gets performance anxiety when it comes to throwing the perfect party). The nice thing about having just desserts is that everything can be made beforehand and then set up on a lovely table that I and the guests can enjoy throughout the evening. It would be a drag to miss the show because you’re running back and forth pulling things out of the oven, etc.

As an #LMDConnector, I can tell you that the Life Made Delicious website is an excellent resource for some great dessert recipes that are easy to make!

Here are some of my favorites:

CAKE BONBONS (Cake pops without the stick)

Will you be throwing an Oscar party this year?  What will you be serving??

COOL WHIP Whipped Topping And Share Your Recipe

Growing up, my family of seven weren’t really dessert eaters – except for fruit, we never really ate desserts after dinner. Desserts were left for special occasions and events, like weddings and birthdays. And then I married someone who was served dessert, every night after his dinner. Polar opposites learn to compromise  in marriage, if they want to stay married. So, we’ve compromised as our own little family – dessert is something we definitely on occasion, especially during the hotter months. Sadly, despite my best intentions when it comes to baking, I’m not that great at it. I tend to fail more often than not, and the end result never looks like what it’s supposed to look like. This can be a problem when I’ve promised the kids and the husband a special treat after dinner. So I fake it.

Fake it ’til you make it!

You can easily pick up the components to a great dessert, assemble them and make them your own, and your family will gobble them up with zero complaint. There are so many desserts you can make this way, but I’ll share two that I’ve made (assembled) before that the family enjoyed.

For example:

Take a strawberry sponge cake, add your fruit of choice, which is always strawberries for us, and of course, a GENEROUS dollop of COOL WHIP Whipped Topping. YUM

Simple but pretty tasty.

Example Two:

Clearly, I’m not a food stylist either – sorry.

This one is delicious too – take one chocolate molten lava cake, and add COOL WHIP. Full stop.

Of course, you can make it more exciting with fruit as well, but since the lava cake is SO rich and chocolaty, a dollop of COOL WHIP is a perfect addition.

COOL WHIP is also a yummy addition to an ice cream sundae, an iced coffee or a bowl of fresh berries too.
