Movie Nights Are The Best

25th July 2014

The Husband and I love to watch movies. We’ve been known to watch several every week – yes we are party animals. Our clubbing days are clearly OVER.

It’s why I like giving away movies on my blog – I like to share my addictions. I’d give away every movie we watch if I could, but ain’t nobody got time for that.

So to celebrate the month of my birth, the lazy days of summer, cardigans, caffeine and the days of the week (I don’t really need a reason), I’m giving away two movies this time around.

The Netflix Stream Team #StreamTeam

22nd April 2014

Netflix_StreamTeam_Badge

It’s been ages since I last blogged thanks mainly to the big house move, but I’m back. Hi. I’ve missed you.

I’m excited that my first post back is all about Netflix and becoming a member of the Netflix Stream Team. I am a huge fan of Netflix, as is the husband and the kids. We watch it all the time, and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a day that goes by that someone isn’t watching something on Netflix. All the documentaries and tv shows and obviously, movies – it’s just too good. So when the invite came to join the Stream Team, it was a definitely a no brainer.

Netflix really comes in handy at our house on Friday nights in particular. Friday nights are our family movie nights, where the entire family sits down to enjoy a flick. Since we have Netflix set up on every tv in the house, as well as every iPad, iPod and iPhone (we are a tad obsessed), choosing something to watch on Netflix is super easy! Personally, I love that there are options for both my seven year old daughter, and the ten year old who has now entered the ‘boring, not cool, that’s for babies’ stage of life.

With school breaks like March Break or even just a long weekend like we just enjoyed, we are always able to access and watch some great shows and movies, thanks to good old Netflix.

doctor who

My ten year old is currently OBSESSED with Doctor Who, and he’s slowly made his way through almost every episode. In fact, the entire family is hooked at this point. It’s great that he can access almost every episode of the show so easily, which saves me from having to buy the DVDs.

my little pony

The seven year old is all about My Little Pony and I could probably recite some of the episodes if asked. I mean she, SHE could recite the episodes if asked. I’m a grown woman – I don’t watch My Little Pony.

Ahem.

There are so many great movies available to watch as well – some of our favorites, that we’ve watched a few times include:

GULLIVER’S TRAVELS, TURBO, and my personal favorite, HUGO!

All it takes is some popcorn and cold beverages, Netflix and a Friday night, and you’re set to enjoy a lovely evening with your brood.

ENJOY!!

Beginners – A Great Movie

8th January 2012

Oh, Hi.

I’m back. I took a wee break, to recover from pneumonia and enjoy the holidays with my people.

I hope you missed me.

Anywho, during the holidays  I had a chance to do some reading:

The Hunger Games which was fantastic, despite being something I wouldn’t normally read. I’m almost done Catching Fire and really enjoying that as well. I really recommend them if you’re looking for something to read.

I also watched several flicks, including:

Jane Eyre – I’ve seen every version of this Jane Austen book and the latest is a great one. Mia Wasikowska (Jane) is fantastic, Judy Dench is divine (as always) and Michael Fassbender (Mr. Rochester) is perfection. I’ve never seen Michael Fassbender before, but it is damn near impossible not to fall in love with him in this movie. If you love a great period movie, this one is a must see.

Limitless – I started watching this one with the husband, but got distracted and missed half the movie. What I did see was great, and the husband really liked it. Also, Bradley Cooper is in it, so there’s that.

Beginner’s – If you’re fan of quirky, different movies, this one is a must see. It stars Ewan MacGregor and Christopher Plummer who are both SO good  and perfectly cast. This movie is funny and smart and really well done. GREAT rental!!

Oh, and if you love quirky movies, two others that come to mind are The Royal Tenenbaums (one of my all-time favs) and 500 Days of Summer.

And the husband bought me an iPad 2 for Christmas. Did I mention that I love the husband.

How were your holidays?? Did you read or see anything worth sharing??

Boatlift – A Must See 9/11 Documentary

12th September 2011

I know I’m a bit late on this post – but I saw this 10 minute documentary on CNN yesterday and I just had to share it. Boatlift, narrated by Tom Hanks is the amazing story of how 500,000 people were evacuated by boat in just nine HOURS on 9/11.

It is an absolute must see.
