Three New Kid Shows on Netflix #StreamTeam

24th August 2015

There’s always great new content on Netflix every month and Netflix has added some new kids programming this summer that your kids will love.

First up, DINOTRUX!

dinotrux

Dinotrux is an original Netflix series from Dreamworks! It’s a show where half dinosaurs, half construction vehicles exist and work together to build a better world and to fight against D-Structs. It’s super cute, geared towards the younger set and all ten episodes of Season One are streaming now.

Dragons: Race to the Edge

If you’re a fan of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, you’ll love their new Netflix Original, Dreamworks series Dragons: Race to the Edge. It’s funny and we love that it’s voiced by the actors from the movie as well. The first season has ten episodes and they’re perfect for enjoying with the entire family.

Project Mc2

This one is my eight year old daughter’s favourite new Netflix Show. Project Mc2, another Netflix original, is about four super smart girls who work together as spies, using their science and tech skills. She thought it was funny and loved the science aspect to it. There are only three episodes available so far, but we’re hoping for more soon!

Have you watched any of these shows yet? What did you think??

Liars Get the Stink Eye #StreamTeam

30th April 2015

When the skim milk is lying about being milk, nothing is safe.

As a kid, I wasn’t a very good liar and I would always get caught. My mother had this way of just looking at me, and asking me if I was telling the truth or not. If I cracked in any way – smiling, giggling, insisting I was telling the truth – I was toast. Even today, one look from my tough Greek Mom, and it’s all over. She has perfected the stink eye.

you-liedNow that I have kids of my own, I’ve had the pleasure of being on the receiving end of adorable fibs and silly lies for years. Sometimes I’ve laughed in response, especially when they were little, because they were SO ridiculous and kind of adorable.  But now that the kids are older, I’m not so understanding. I make sure they know I’m not cool with lying no matter what. And even though I’m a total hypocrite (hello Santa, Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy), I’m fine with it.

Of course, in some families, the lies run much deeper. The Rayburns is one such family and they’re featured in the new Netflix Original Series BLOODLINE. Sadly, I haven’t had the chance to watch it yet, but people are raving about it. The series follows a family caught between the ugly truth and the terrible lie that covers it up, and features Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights fame.

Looking for more titles that also relate to lying and honesty? There are several titles Netflix is featuring this month that our family has watched including:

Great Science Inspired Titles For Kids on Netflix Canada #StreamTeam

31st March 2015

netflix-logo
Netflix Canada is a great resource for fun entertainment for the kids – endless movie and television show options that kids of all ages can enjoy.

Although there are tons of choices that will make the kiddies laugh and have fun, I think it’s really important to expose them to movies and shows that they may not choose for themselves. For example, there are so many science titles on Netflix that are a great way to entertain and educate at the same time.

Most of the time when I make a suggestion for movie night that isn’t the typical animated family flick, I usually get the groans from both of the lovely people to whom I gave life. And then they watch and almost always, enjoy my suggestion, because I am always right. Ahem.

Want to get your kids science-inspired this month?? Here are some great titles to check out for your older kids (mine are 8 and 11 and enjoyed these as well).

PBS offers great science titles that are informative and interesting but also understandable. Hunting the Elements and Deadliest Volcanoes are only two of many highly rated ones to check out.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey is 13 episodes about the nature of time and space, based on the original series. It is incredible and beautiful and an absolute must-see.

TedTalks: Let Your Mind Wonder are a fun series of 16 short videos that answer some important questions like Should we eat bugs? and Why is yawning contagious? These are answers we all need, no??

These are just four titles to check out but you can find so many great science themed titles including those from PBS and TedTalks. Have fun getting  your science on!!

Great October Picks on Netflix Canada #StreamTeam

28th October 2014

If you read my blog, you’ll know that we are huge fans of Netflix in our house.

This month, we noticed that Netflix set up a new section in the Genre section titled Halloween Favorites, which were then further separated by Family options and those of the gory persuasion.

We’ve had the chance to watch several flicks with the kids this month that we really enjoyed. Some we’ve seen before but loved enough to watch again, and some new ones as well.

Some of the flicks we enjoyed as a family include:

Hotel Transylvania – the kids love this one and I do too, but oy Adam Sandler’s Dracula voice drives me crazy, and not in a good way.

Corpse Bride – Love it.

Addams Family Values – The kids fought me on this one because it looked “old from the 80s” but they loved everything about it.

Ghostbusters – We tried this one with the kids because I think we need to expose our children to the classics, but they weren’t into it. I watched it again after they went to bed because Bill Murray can no wrong, ever.

Without the kids, I watched:

Sleepy Hollow – I’ve seen this a few times but it is so good and so visually fantastic and creepy that it’s a must see on a regular basis. Johnny Depp is so good, he is absolutely in his element.

And I used to love watching scary movies but then I had kids, and I can’t seem to stomach them anymore, sadly. If I wasn’t such a wimp I would totally watch:

Cabin in the Woods – I’ve heard it’s funny and very scary and Chris Hemsworth is in it so there’s that.

Paranormal Activity – Seriously, I’ve wanted to see this since it came out, but the trailer makes me curl up in a ball and rock back and forth whimpering, so I’m thinking it’s not going to happen.

The Grudge – All I know about this movie is something to do with a shower, and a hand coming out of someone’s head or not. I have no idea but it looks too scary for this wimp.

Summer Time Adventure Movies with Netflix #StreamTeam

29th August 2014

netflix-logo

Summer is almost over.

I don’t know about you but I am tired. As a stay-at-home mom, I’ve been with my kids EVERY SINGLE DAY for the ENTIRE SUMMER BREAK.

We took road trips, we worked on our new house, we swam every day, we played, we bbq’d, we laughed, we cried, and we (me) hid in the bathroom for quiet time whenever possible.

I’m DONE.

We also had lots of lazy days and nights at home, which I love since I’m a homebody/mommy hermit.

We had many, many movie nights and many of those movies we streamed from Netflix. Have I mentioned my love for Netflix? Yes I have, but just to reinforce the point – I love me some Netflix.

With small kids, we’ve seen (been forced to watch) every possible animated movie ever released, so whenever possible, we try to expose them to something else.

Among the flicks we watched, we saw Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and National Treasure, or as my kids refer to them, The bald guy Movie and The Nicholas Cage movie.

Netflix-stream-team

We tend to stick to funny movies and adventure flicks with the kids, so these were well received. Besides, how can you not enjoy classic Nicholas Cage???? You can’t. You just can’t. Don’t even bother trying.

Yes, the story lines might be a tad ridiculous and unbelievable but that’s what movies are all about. Also, Nicholas Cage can do no wrong  (if you don’t believe me, just watch Face/Off or ConAir).

If you need an adventurous movie night with the family, try one of these flicks. Then again, if you have Netflix, your options are endless. If you don’t have it yet, it’s the best $9/month you’ll ever spend.

Alone Time With Netflix #StreamTeam

30th June 2014

Netflix_StreamTeam_BadgeOh how I adore my alone time with Netflix.

It really doesn’t take much to make me happy after the kids are in bed – a iced latte, pyjamas, many pillows and my Netflix. I love it so much, and I’m ok with that. I like that I can relax in bed, and watch some great tv shows, and binge watch at my leisure.

Of course, I have my favourites:

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK – I may have watched the new season over a two day period. Fantastic second season and excited to see Season Three.

HAPPY ENDINGS – This one is an old one, but whenever I need a laugh, every episode makes me howl. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched them but it’s my go to happy place show.

THE KILLING – SO good. So sad it’s almost over but crazy excited about Season four coming up in July!!!

SUITS – Fantastic show – witty, smart, and full of obscenely attractive people. Love it.

I also have a very long list of shows that I have yet to watch that are conveniently on Netflix. I LOVE that I don’t have to wait a week to see the next show – seriously, binge watching is where it’s at.

I can’t wait to watch:

SHERLOCK – My cousin in Toronto and I are constantly texting each other about what we’re watching (we are both addicted to really bad reality tv) and she RAVES about this show. I’ve only heard great things so it’s number one on the list.

Veronica Mars –  I adore Kristen Bell, so I’ve always been curious about this show.

The Good Wife – Oh, Mr. Big, you had me at hello.

Bates Motel – I’d love to see this but I’m a total wimp so, it’s been on the watch list with Dexter for a while now.

I love Netflix – did I say that already? Seriously, it’s worth every penny.

Do you have Netflix? What are your favorite shows to binge watch???
